There's a good way around the whole flash indexing malarky: Make the flash site parse xml from the xhtml page your flash site sits on.

Relatively easy, and google never knows any better.

if what we're talking about here is the ability to index remote calls to content, it's not just a flash issue. it's javascript too. i'm not sure what the implementation is, but if analytics can provide insight into what content is being loaded after the page, it's a win for everyone.

i wasn't too happy about hearing this news, cos now flash ppl will just confuse clueless bosses even more by answering "CAN TOO!" to the ol' "but flash can't be indexed!" argument of not using flash.
Nothing good will come of this, ah tell ya!

That link I posted above is actually a pretty good test case. Searching for the 2advanced Flash pulls up the Geocities site of some guy who ripped off their site because he just embedded the Flash:

But the actual 2Advanced site doesn't come up because they write the Flash in with JS like most people.

When was Flash ever relevant?

When wasn't Flash relevant?

Flash has always been relevant

Flash has always been relevant to clueless, backseat designer bosses.
Also, I just read that this "enhanced flash [insert PR vomit]" is only available to Yahoo & Google. I mean, I love to hate micro$h4ft as much as anyone, but that's kinda a dick move on Adobe's part.

Why you would waste time hating a technology is beyond me. There are plenty of shitty Flash sites, plenty of shitty sites in general too though. Bottom line is that Flash is more widely used on mainstream sites that it ever has been now that its become accepted as the best way to deliver video.

"Flash has always been relevant to clueless, backseat designer bosses."
The company I work for does exclusively flash sites for movies, a good example of flash being very good for certain things. Saying it's "irrelevant" misses this fact entirely, maybe it's irrelevant to you. . . but it's like living in the desert and insisting nobody in the world needs a coat.

web 1.0 is the new 3.0

Gobbledy goobledy gob; gibble gabble gabooble bob.
So, bottom line: Flash will soon be searchable?

All I know from a pure design standpoint is that 1. Flash interfaces are not limited to web fonts or 2. static layouts, and 3. They allow for layering and the illusion of 3-D depth, rather than flat flat flat HTML.

Haha. Nicely put.
Never really understood why all the standards people get so wound up by flash. The company I work for also does flash sites for the movies, and i would just love to see slater try and sell an html site to one of my clients. "BUT IT'S SEARCHABLE AND COMPLIENT" wouldn't get you very far.
