Anyone here from Spain? Anyone here ever managed to connect via mac airport to telefonicas comtrend "wireless" router? Anyone tell me how the f*ck you are supposed to do it???
My god, telefonica are so v-v-sh*te!
I am using a macbook that I know can do it - but it just won't pick up the router - asks me if I am out of signal range - errr, no I am sitting right next to it!!!
Can connect to the internet but only at an ether cable length!I don't know if I am supposed to do something via the http://192.168.1.1/ online control panel - or if it should just pick it up like it says it does!
Anyone had any success with this? Please?

So you people are supposedly "champions" and you don't know how to set up a simple connection, huh?

I live in Spain and I don't use Telefonica as they have only given me headache! If I where you go with www.ya.com cheaper, fast, stronger!
But regarding the issue could be many things... I dont use a Mac but try this:
1) Please check your WiFi setting on your Mac and make sure that there is nothing blocking out the router
2) Go to http://192.168.1.1/ and go to the page where you have your WiFi connections and setup your WiFi network, create a SID or WEP key and then enter that to your Mac.
3) Resetting your router could help
4) Call Telefonica and ask to talk to the tech department, I think the number from Spain is 1004 (They have english support as well)
5) I had a linksys router before and I had to give it back as it did not connect to telefonica central. So you could run into this problem but they will give you a new one quick...Good luck.

thanks PSYKHO - yes, one big headache from telefonica!!!
I'll see what refalskis mate thinks before I go resetting anything - did try that a few days back and managed to lock myself out altogether!!!
Don't even know how I got back in!!!I'll have a look at that url though

My friend is giving me smartass general answers so far.. "you configure it through the network, http or telnet".
I just asked him if the router broadcasts SSID or you have to set it up yourself..
- wwfc0
smartass answers??? ...ha ha ha - dos he work for telefonica?!?!
Threaten him with a chinese burn if he doesn't come good!!!
I am looking around the control panel but I am reluctant to touch anything in case the walls come crashing down (as they have a tendency to do!)
Let me know if he can offer a definitive of any description. Grateful for you taking time to ask about rafalski
- rafalski0
He's not answering the email.. I should have mentioned the Chinese burn.
- wwfc0
...yes, it works 9 out of 10 times!!!
Perhaps this bloody router may succumb to the chinese burn threat!!!Keep me posted rafalski
;-)

So you can get on the control panel after all? Post some screengrabs, we'll figure them out.
How's the weather? [grin]
- wwfc0
...yes, can get onto the control panel and also connect to the net - but only with the ether cable!! Where to start on the screen grabs???
...weather? HOT HOT HOT!
- rafalski0
So, there is no SSID broadcast? You probably need to set it up via cable. I have no idea where to start with the screenshots, give us what you have, just blur the passwords, if any :)

also - I tried this:

Check under the router, Telefonica sometimes puts a sticker there with the SSID and password

If you are unable to connect thru wireless, connect via ethernet.
Tell the Macbook to obtain an IP address.
In network preference pane you should see the IP address it obtained from the router, and also the router IP address, use the router IP address on Safari to access the router's admin page, and from there you should be able to change the Wireless options.
Google telefonica and the name of the router to see the default passwords for the admin section.

I gave up trying to get my Dad's Telefonica connection details to work with his Linksys router, with Vista. There were just too many hair-pulling variables. 'Glad' to see see it wasn't just me, 'thanks' PSYCHKO!
grr.
Not much help there, eh?
- wwfc0
thanks for the pointers emexbcn - it's all very f*cking frustrating!
- wwfc0
okay - I got onto the control panel and I have wireless enabled - but when I go to connect to wlan_fb - it asks me for a password - the password is the telefonica default password (1234) - but it tells me that it is incorrect! - which part of the routers ip control panel should I be looking at?
- rafalski0
You mean, trying to connect through airport? That'll be a 5 or 10 digit passphrase either supplied by telefonica or set yourself in the control panel, depending on encryption level set.

screen grabs...

what do I need to change/open/activate???
- rafalski0
You don't get to set that password it seems. I'd look for a 5/10/26 digits (and letters) password on a sticker on the router then.

...bang the drum!!!! - got the bloody thing working not too sure how - but I think it was when I stood on one leg and wiggled my ears!!!! lol!
no, for any future strugglers it was the password on the underside if the router...
...shooting folks! thanks for all of the help :-)
