"Paul C. Fisher spent millions developing a pen for NASA to use in space-one that could write in zero gravity. the russians just used a pencil"
things like this where there is a very simple solution to what seems like a very complicated problem...
thanks

Occam's razor
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occ…"The principle states that the explanation of any phenomenon should make as few assumptions as possible, eliminating those that make no difference in the observable predictions of the explanatory hypothesis or theory.
This is often paraphrased as "All other things being equal, the simplest solution is the best." In other words, when multiple competing theories are equal in other respects, the principle recommends selecting the theory that introduces the fewest assumptions and postulates the fewest entities. It is in this sense that Occam's razor is usually understood."
- Kind of different, but your request reminds me of this theory.Jaline

I once heard a story of a large transport truck that went under a bridge to low for it's height. It got wedged in pretty tight, and was blocking a major artery of the city. Officials and contractors all agreed that the bridge would need to be taken down and re-built just to get the truck out. Then along comes a young woman that suggests they just let the air out of the tires and then tow the truck...
- "artery", heheJaline

- Good one. Heard this in a movie I think.Mimio
- Is it not spelled "artery"?D_Dot

theres always the old story, goes something like:
A truck gets stuck/crammed under a low bridge, police and firemen try to get it out without causing damage and fail, after a period of time a local kid suggests.. "why dont you just let all the air out of the tires?" and it works. ;)

So NASA didn't develop the pen but there's plenty of references to them testing it. That sure as hell ain't free especially if NASA gets involved.
Totally sounds like a cover up...

The Americans developed the world's smallest drill back during the 2nd world war, and so pleased with their achievement sent it over to the Japanese to show off and claim their place in history... the Japanese sent it back with a hole drilled in it.
