been asked before, not once, i promise.
i know i need to get the graphic artist guild, but your all smart folk and i could use a little advice.almost out of school. i just freelanced a project that i am happy with and the client is very happy with. i put in about 30 hours overall, branding and stationary materials, dealt with the printer / client, etc. the client is opening up a small consulting firm, hence the stationary / branding. i know i can't charge much because i am fresh, however the client mentions quite often the amount of success they've had running businesses.
whats fair for me, i was thinking 50 to 40/hr range. i greatly appreciate your help!

i charged 50$/hr starting out freelance. that's fair.

Did you find the printer?

If you start out doing work for free, you end up doing work for free.
I think that rate is fair. Don’t let them tell you “if you do this one for free, there will be more work down the track”. It never happens in my experience.

you still a student? minimum wage for you bro!

- $30-40 for student work. And dont charge hourly for stationary/ branding, determine you price before taking on the jobimnotadesigner

Sounds reasonable for someone starting out.

I would have discussed this with the client before doing any work...

- it comes with experience, you'll make mistakes down the road and you'll learn from em... its the only wayimnotadesigner

you're very lucky to be getting that kind of money just getting out of school. IMO, keep it up.

thanks all.
still a student yes..but do my best to be as professional as possible—sign offs before printing, emails to cover my ass, and i always remember to tell the client that im the designer and they arn't, haha. justt kidding. i thank all of you.is it sad that i check this site so often already?

also, get a percentage up front. 30-40% is my average but depends on what you prefer. it saves some hassle and means that if it gets ugly you at least got some cash and if the job goes into stall mode you've got some cash. usually i don't apply this to long-time clients but that's bitten me on the arse lately.
