I'm doing some volunteer freelance web design work for a church.
Does anybody know if I can write this off as a 'donation' on my taxes?
Anybody have any experience with this?
Thanks

no you can't

Doubt it. It's volunteer work, you're not getting paid...money is not involved at all.

Unless the preist is PIITB for some of that change in the basket...

I think you can if you get the church to write you an invoice with pro-bono or some such on it.

Yeh. I'm pretty sure if u call it 'pro bono', you could write off the hours.

lol @ writing off 'volunteer church work'... HAHAHAHA!!!
I know a lot of folks that would have massive tax returns if this were allowed. :) ... nice try though!

^^ although the two comments above as 'pro-bono' invoices...
... that may actually work. :)

God will punish you though for writing off His work.

using the church to get back at the state!
anybody actually gone through with it?

You can't write-off time that you personally invested into a project (at least not in the U.S.). Invoicing them and then applying it as a donation won't gain you anything, tax-wise, either.
- I've read that Canada handles this differently but I don't remember the details.Josev
