I have a legit copy of CS3 for my mac. Everything works fine...except Photoshop. As soon as you open it, it shuts down. I've tried downloading legacy versions to see if they will work. Same problem. Does anyone have a clue what's going on??

have you tried trashing the preferences or did you have a another version previously installed?

I am on xp and I had the same problem when trying to load an image from my digital camera in photoshop... since then, it won't open anymore. I haven't fixed it yet.

Yes, I used to have another version installed. But I thought I completely got rid of it. What do you mean "trash the preferences"?

hold down ctrl+alt+shift while loading photoshops

do a search for this file > Photoshop 7.0 Prefs.psp

Yeah, trash the preferences.

Did you download the Photoshop CS3 beta a while back? I had problems with my CS3 Photoshop until I got the cleaner file Adobe put together to get rid of the beta remnants.

I have the same problem on my PC, already tried every workaround mentioned above and still no success... I even tried a full format on my hd. Now i'm back using CS2 on the PC and CS3 only on my Mac (where this doesn't happen)

could be a font problem too - sometimes corrupt fonts will shut down - the type tool does initialize on program startup, might want to turn off your fonts and see if it'll open... a little trial and error related but could help figure out what is going on

sometimes i can use cs3 for half-hour, sometimes for 2 seconds, sometimes for 3 minutes, and then suddenly it closes down, it doesn't even ask for save or gives me any error, it just disapear.

Fuck. Such an essential program should not have these problems.

call adobe tech support
- Yeah, if its legit isn't there some kind of support number for it? Failing that have you tried the support forums?ninjasavant

Have you tried buying a legal version?

Download the CS3 cleaner from Adobe directly: http://www.adobe.com/support/con…
I had the same problem so I erased the entire CS3 suite (all apps) using the cleaner, reinstalled everything and it's been running perfectly ever since. When I asked tech support what the problem was, they had mentioned that the Photoshop CS3 Beta was the culprit.
Just my .02

Have you installed Version Cue?? They have a known issue with version cue affecting other apps.
If so you'll need to un-install and then re-install but for god sake don't install Version Cue... its a dirty bastard.

I took all your advice. Still no Photoshop.
