i wouldn't say either is better. depends on what packages you're looking for, do both fink and darwinports have what you need? are you planning on doing everything from the CLI, or are you planning on using FinkCommander or Port Authority?

Well, both are adequately packed.
I ended up installing MacPorts since it has a feel just like the normal FreeBSD ports, which I loved about that dist.I can only recommend MacPorts, but I don't think it has a GUI, so you'll have to do some typing. I like the flexibility that gives me.

i prefer darwinports myself, but i have debian nightmares from a past job, so perhaps i'm just biased.
there's porticus

and port authority

which are gui front ends for darwinports, though i haven't used either so can't speak to their usefulness or reliability
