Whats up with books, memberships or schwag relating to design being so expensive?
And why are we such suckers for it.

It's human nature.

AIGA: $375/yr
Art Directors Club: 225/yr
Charlie Harper: An Illustrated Life: $200
Tres Logos: $53.95 a pop
RM image from Getty: not even worth pricinggranted some are worth the money, but the AIGA one just makes no sense

And there's me thinking you were talking about worthwhile purchases.

i don't know about the aiga?
you should talk to members
if its worth the money.
Never buy tres logos,
this book is redundant in 5 monthsbuy this one
or anything from yasaburo kuwayamagetty, well i never look rightsmanaged, but if so,
its the client who pays, its in our contracts....a little les whining and a bit more working.

I purposely left out the biggies, Herman Miller, DWR, Pokemon pencil cases.

Is there any worth being a member of AIGA or Art Directors club.
In the UK D&AD is free (you have to win an award though :)

what i hate is fancy invites to a competition,
but at the end of the invite comes the catch,
that you have fork up money to enter the compitions.
for me, competitions are already for suckers,
and then even paying for it...dang....

In America we value your money much more than any talent. If the AIGA or ADC started only allowing winners in, they'd get sued hourly.
