Anyone been in a design rut? Can't find inspiration? Intolerant of clients? Thinking about a new career path?
I'm thinking of changing my career to a professional question asker.

Seems like a lot of people have been saying this lately. You are def not alone.

I think any decent designer/artist goes through several of these throughout a career. A 'spring cleaning' of the mind if you will. It's important because it allows you time to reflect and also to set up for new inspiration.
Embrace the coldness.

i thought you were talking 'funk' - jazz's deformed cousin (see below):
but yes, have been there and still get there often. the key for me was to look for inspiration in other stuff apart from design + get out and do stuff you usually don't. the rut is usually an overall one, not just a design one. if you've got crap coming in you'll get crap going out. that was my thought anyways.
and i hope you get through it!

Yeah like airey said - look for inspiration in other things.
Also - healthy body = healthy mind. Whenever I got in a rut I went overboard on exercise and it brought me back quicker
- +1000 on the diet / exercise thing. i've got fat and unfit and am digging out of that now. it makes a diference.airey

Welcome to my last week, but 35 degrees and a beach in Zihuatanejo await me next week.
I like to call it my creative recharge.

The single most creatively uninspiring industry out there. I feel your pain.

I would recommend visiting some museums and art galleries that have nothing to do with design, get lost in the moment, the art and yourself.

I think sometimes I'm scared to try - so I don't. Either because I fear failure, or I fear wasting time and effort on work a client won't appreciate.
- Honestly, a lot of it has to do with what you're working on and the support you get from your team.2cents
- haha what team? I have an art director i can barely work with and I havent got a creative briefepete22

I think I do need more exercise and a change of scenery. Unfortch. I'm going in for an operation in a few weeks that will leave me stuck in bed for 2 weeks. No walking around. No exercise. Just me, 4 walls and a giant telly. And a stinky dog.

Run, run as fast as you can away from the creative drain known as Vancouver real estate design. Not to mention the market is slowing huge and all those shops with their main focus on real estate are going to be hurting soon, if not already.
Vancouver is small market, but there are some really good companies here to work for.
- ukit0
What's so bad about doing real estate sites? Just curious
- Melanie0
Actually, nothing is bad about it at first. It's fun. Good budgets, interesting problem solving... it's just after the 20th project and the same real estate format it becomes harder and harder to create something original.
