i formed a group on linked-in for my school and this busy body lady informed them. i explained to her that the first thing i did after creating it was offer it to the head of the design dept and he said he was fine with me managing it.
but she went ahead and informed alumni management and now they're asking for it. alumni management has been dicks because they make it nearly impossible for graduates to keep connected b/c they're mostly consumed with using their website to get new students. i.e. the home page is a form that appears like it needs to be filled out with endless info before you can even enter the site. i complained about this to them directly and they did nothing.
so now that dept. is offering me a position as the alumni chapter president in exchange but i am thinking i'd prefer a new macbook pro. should i try negotiating or just hand it over?

It's war time.

isn't this equivalent to buying up domain names knowing they will be of worth to someone someday?

I did the same thing, but I did it at Facebook. Obviously there are differences between our situations, but I agreed to let some current students moderate the groups since I rarely login anyway.
In your case, I think you should get as much as you can out of it.

Sounds like you should make a tough decision keep your principles and become president and help to stream them in the way you would like or sell out like a ho and get a macbook...
- This one is more noble. Not bad either, if you have the option of "making the world a better place" or whatever.Jaline

Would your co-workers be worth working with? Or are they like that woman noted above.
