I've spent about five minutes trying to start my post on this movie so as not to sound offensive, so I'm giving up. It sucked. Sorry, I don't mean to be a dick, but it was painful to watch and gave me bedsores on my ass it was so long.
The story is an interesting one, but the movie blew the retelling. I mean, where was the actual dealing with the issues of age? Of "awkward" love? Of something that's not accepted by society? It was a simple retelling of a story better left to the pages (and, note, I have not read the short story).
The best part is the first half (a movie on its own). Brad Pitt, no matter how much he annoys you, is a good actor, and pulled off a challenging role in a way I bought into and enjoyed. So, props there. And don't get me wrong, the emotional pull of hte movie stayed with me all the way through. But, I got bored and Pitt aged towards...Pitt. Suddenly, he was playing the role he always plays, and that was much less fun to watch.
I guess I was disappointed. I thought it was so much fun to watch the first half that the repetitiveness of the second half just put me to sleep. It's too bad that a really great performance was eclipsed by my ass falling asleep.
- dont sweat it, the more I think about it, the more I agree that it really did straight suck. snoozer.threadpost
- there was ZERO explanation nor connection to any of the characters. weak.threadpost

so often people say 'it's great' or 'it was boring' and pretend the world knows what they mean by such common and overused terms. and i just want to say i appreciate the care you put into your writing here, awkwardmedia. you did it without much spoiler as well.
- Thanks man! I appreciate that--the two goals I was trying to achieve.awkwardmedia

did i tell you i was struck by lightning 7 times?
haha- totally out of the blue comedy interjectionto awkwards point above- the awkward love was addressed in the under the table scene with the redhead kid.
but yeah- you are right about when brad aged into brad.. dashing brad on a indian motorcycle.. zzzzz
but saying the movie as a whole sucked is crazy to me. its a great narrative. and tying it at the end to hurricane katrina was wild. a lot of shit to put together in 3 hrs
- It was a Triumph Bonneville, not an Indian.threadpost
- The lighning thing was funny...But I guess the monotony of the second half ruined the first. The narritive's cool, tho, I'll give you that.awkwardmedia
- the lightning part was very funny.threadpost

it was ok, I just watched it. I never felt any emotional connection to any of the characters nor did the story do anything special. When comparing it to other movies, Forrest Gump comes to mind. Very similar in many ways. Except in Forrest Gump, the story was far more developed and believable and the characters had far more depth and dimension.
In Benjamin Button, there was no explanation whatsoever for his condition. A vague mention of some backwards running clock, but nothing to explain it. All and all I would MAYBE recommend it on dvd, but I could sit here an poke holes in the plot all night long. Whereas movies like Forrest Gump left a lasting impression and a true connection with the characters. I say skip it.

I can see both sides of the argument here.
It comes down to a subjective opinion about the movie in the end. If you don't have an emotional connection with the movie you ARE NOT going to like it. This is very similar to yes, Forrest Gump, Neverland and There will be Blood. You need the connection to stay interested in the story. I thought Gump and Blood were snore fest and really wanted to walk out but I appreciated the acting and cinematography and I was glad I stayed.
If you are going to see the movie you have to have an open mind, commit to a 3hr movie and remember the story is COMPLETELY FANTASY.

not the best movies to go watch on friday night before going out to boogie... I think enough about my older dying family to go pay at the theater to get reminded "when is the last time you called your aging mother to tell her i love you" dont mean to be shallow, i got the point, but i dont need to go get reminded by an ailing fantasy character that everyone you love will die... i know this

even tough i totally get benjamin... i just keep getting better with age

I really liked it.
I was open-minded about Brad Pitt, and I think he did quite well with what he had. But still...in the end I found him to be less engaging than most of the other characters.
Cate Blanchett was fantastic. She almost always steals films away from other actors. I found myself being more interested in her character than Benjamin himself.
It's worth watching. I was just left with a need for more (further explanation for certain things would've been nice).

It was really flat.

I really enjoyed it. The message of the movie was inspirational, and Brad Pitt's character was a unique vehicle in which to explore the human condition. Why/How Ben B has his condition is missing the point—it's fantasy. Ben B had the perspective to live his life to the fullest by living it backwards. He spent his best years traveling, exploring, and doing all the things people wait their whole lives to do, and most never end up doing them. If nothing else, it's a reminder that one has one short life, and not to miss out on what one can do with it. For me, that makes it worth watching.

i got talked into going to watch it, and expected it to suck.
i ended up really liking it. interesting concept, well done. it was a bit long, but i don't see how they could have cut much and made it the movie it was.

Upon further thought, I thought this movie SUCKED. There were sooooo many holes in this story. I'm totally ok with the suspension of disbelief and allowing yourself to get sucked into a far fetched story because its just pure entertainment. My problem with this movie is that it just tried so hard to be something more than it was. They just dug for any silly feel good movie cliche they could think of and threw it in. Weak weak weak.
- sorry, I just realized I've posted 3 different times why I didnt like this movie. that was overkill. apologies.threadpost

I watch the movie last night and loved it, The CGI work was very impressive and I loved the story. I'm surprised how much negative comments it has received from people on here.

I started to watch this and got about 10 mins in, where he was sat on the veranda with the old folks trying to get somewhere on his rocking chair. It looked absolutely awful and entirely pointless so I turned it off.
