Any other examples? I need something like this too... open source would be best or at the very least a buy once and own type of thing. Nothing hosted or with monthly fees.
I need something like this that I can give to my flash students who don't likely know php/mysql. www.flashimagegallery.com/ would be perfect for us, if it actually worked right. I need add/delete/rearrange (i like the dragging) with options for title and description. Straight php and xml, no database, would be best. FIG (as they call it) would be perfect but there are a few problems that break the deal.
If someone could make this or fix the above, we could discuss a fee for doing it. Shoot me an email if interested...

Simply use an XML file, basically works the same a CMS without the pretty web interface.

i'd second the flickr api idea, i've been playing around with it and it's pretty simple. i'd suggest caching the data on your server though and having a mechanism to expire the cache when they've updated their flickr. also not sure what their terms of service are if the photog site is for profit?

This is an amazing, new, cms... that allows the designer to place "update spots" wherever they want them.
You can even do auto FLV converts, as well as on the fly cropping and image compression.
I've used it for about 10+ clients now. I love it. They love it.
Easy.

Why not give http://slideshowpro.net/ a look? If its just to showcase his images then it should do the trick. Its not free but it is dirt cheap.
