I realised recently that my desktop's ancient now - 5 years, I think, though I've been upgrading it as I go along. It was very top of the range when I bought it, so for the most part, it still does what I ask of it, though I am beginning to hit longer waits in Illustrator.
I've been holding off upgrading 'til Intel release a single chip 8 core, as I reckon that'll be the sweetspot to last me the longest (my reasoning being that when They figure out how to properly utilise multi-core chips, 2 and 4 cores will look sadly redundant).

I can only buy electronic toys when my wife approves it, so go ask her...

i plan for 5 and cross my fingers.. with a little TLC and DIY under the hood its totally doable.
- with a tower that is... useable lifespan on imacs prolly shorter.horton
- Thank Christ I'm not the only one - I was beginning to think that my setup was truly geriatric!detritus
- if you can hold out 5+ years i think its a much better product cycle than 3..horton
