I think there is potentially more than one soul mate for every person, though I'm sticking with the one I'm currently married to for the rest of our lives, thank you very much. Best friend + complementary personalities + lover = keeper.

I don't believe you have to (necessarily or fully) be romantically interested in each other to be soul mates. Like the gay main character from Mysterious Skin and his friend.
