Do any of you go through phases where you job jump? Over the past couple of years I can't seem to settle into one place...I want too but something happens where I become disillusioned. It's typically been environmental (i.e., major reorg where entire creative leadership left) or maybe it just ends up being something other than I expected. Maybe my expectations are too high. Maybe I need more life outside of work. What do you do to balance yourself in your work life?

I have moved about 7 times in 12 years or so, besides freelancing for about 2 years... there is NO perfect jobs. It 's like in a relation with someone. You have fun the first 6 months and then, it starts going down. The negative points start getting more and more visible...
Work should definitely not be the center of your life.

    Make a kid!

I've jumped from a lot of jobs over the past 10 years. Only 2 have I left on my own terms. I had a real nasty string of bad luck where 2 jobs in a row went under, the next place I went to started bouncing checks and laid me off, the place after that got stale after 6 months but I stayed for 2 years to gain experience, then left for a job that payed 20k more but had a fucko of a CD. I quit after 3 months of the b.s. and went to another company that laid me off a year later with 55 other employees. Bad luck.

I hear you loud and clear that a company can get stale after awhile but it's your job to do things on your own to liven up the party. al_la was right that it's much like a relationship. Once you realize you work to live and not live to work life gets a whole lot easier. And, for the first time in my career I'm going to be taking advantage of the 4 weeks of vacation I get. At my last few companies I was known for never calling in sick and never going on too many vacations, other than a weekend here and there and our honeymoon. Call in sick at least once a month and just sleep all day to let your body and mind recover. I plan on doing this next week. (keep yur mouth shut studderine!) haha. :)
