I thought it would be cool to check out the beaches if we went all the way there. I haven't surfed since I was a kid but have always wanted to again.

Is gruntt still on here?

Asheville and Boone (+ all areas around) are great for hiking and climbing. Blue Ridge Parkway is beautiful to bike or drive.
In SC, head straight for Charleston. If you want to stay on the beach try the Isle of Palms or (my favorite) Folly Beach. Both about 15 to 20 mins from downtown. Lots to do, and in the summer all the C of C and Citadel kids won't be around in large quantities. Skip Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head all together - both are boring for 2 totally different reasons. Savannah in GA is pretty cool too - never been in the summer though.
Have fun!
- i agree with every word. + savannah can be quite hot... but you can buy a beer on the street.grunttt
- That is cool - St. Patty's is a hell of a good time there.blackfrancis

Asheville (obviously)
Boone is beautiful but a little sleepy in my opinion.
Chapel Hill / Carboro
WilmingtonNC isn't exactly known for it's waves but any NC surfer I've known has said Cape Hatteras is the best.
Let me know if you have any questions. When ya plan on coming through? I'll buy ya a beer.
- I would have to disagree about Wilmington. Lived there for 4 years, never liked it aside from the beach.OnesandZeros

Edisto Beach in SC is super-chill, it is less than an hour south of Charleston on 17. If you wanna zone out on the beach that is the place to go. And if you wanna surf go to NC, southern beaches (Atlantic Beach comes to mind) are sometimes fun in the summer but SC beaches suck in the summer for surf...
- Edisto is cool too. Similar to Folly Beach, just farther away from Charleston. Had some great spring breaks at Edistoblackfrancis

The white people in NC are very friendly as long as you are white...
- that's a pretty lame statement. sorry, but I'm white, I live in NC and I am not a racist.OnesandZeros
- yes, utopian you're very ignorant... it's SC that's full of racists!grunttt

- ...in Asheboro now. So, pretty much all over.
