I've got a 2.4 Ghz iMac with 4Gb on RAM am and am trying to do a median blur to an 720 image over 20 secs... seems to take about half an hour to render out...
Is this normal?, (I don't do a great amount of video work)
Also is there a quicker way to speed this up? i'm trying to achieve a kind of lava lamp effect... Will making the initial source image that I'm manipulating smaller make a difference? As I'm blurring the hell out if anyway?
Also would the same median bur applied to an imported SWF render a lot more quickly?

the render time sounds realistic. on things like this you can consider doing the image manipulation with photoshop actions. are you blurring a vector animation?

Blurs are very time consuming indeed, hit caps before you render this helps speed up a little and also go to your preferences and empty the cache every 12 frames or so, it is in the video cache settings and you have to hold shift I think to reveal the 'secret' menu item try these out it should help a bit :).
