Is there a way to strip all styles out of the menu, but preserve how everything is styled on the page? Basically I want to "unlink" the style from the type, but keep the type looking the same so I can build proper style sheets instead of the fucked up ones that are applied to this file.

You just have to delete the styles from the palette. The text will stay formatted but no style will be attached

no it does not. if you delete all the styles, they go back to "basic" or no style.
i'm creating brand new styles from scratch (entering options by hand.. no eye dropper or anything) that aren't based on anything else then when i go back to apply them on the real text, the whole menu of options thing will be blank ... font blank, size, etc, colors have ? marks.

make sure you remove your character styles also.

you can delete all character styles and tell it to preserve formatting, but cannot with paragraph styles.
so anyone have any answers?
