for all of the nyc people here (or anybody planning to visit) I highly recommend checking out this place. It has the feeling of being in a speakeasy, no big signs outside, just a small nameplate on the door with stairs leading down to the bar itself. Drinks are a bit on the pricey side of the scale, but more than worth it. (strong, exceptionally well thought out, and made.) Watching the bartenders mix the drinks reminds me of watching episodes of mr. wizard; its hypnotizing. When handing me a drink, the bar tender accidentally spilled the smallest amount out of the cup and then proceeded to make me an entirely new drink. This place surpassed all expectations I could have had for it.

    Just thought I'd share.

You can't smoke anywhere anymore. I guess your question was retorical Jnr, as in "yeah, sounds great but...".

Places like this one are what make Manhattan such a great place for me personally. I used to be there a fair amount in the nineties for work and each time I went there'd be some new, unsigned, totally amazing basement bar that colleagues would be raving about. Always very expesnive but always on a free pour policy so worth every cent. I don't ever get over there any more so I never hear about these bars now, so thanks for posting this, I'll never see this place becuase it will be gone (or devolved into shit) by the time I'm next over there with time to spend in bars... but reading it reminds me of times gone.
