Ok, so I've never done crit thread before because I'm self-concious and fragile like a flower.
But I need to get some feedback on this.A couple partners and I are starting to shop around this animated series concept. We'll be at the NYC ComicCon this weekend to meet some people and start dropping the name and shaking hands.
First, I KNOW the HTML has some fuckups. My coding sucks, I'm working on it. I'm mainly looking for reactions to the animated trailer. Does it make sense? Do you get the basic premise? Do you think the audience of PowerPuff girls and other shows like that would watch this.
Thanks, folks!

wow.
asking for feedback while admitting you're "fragile like a flower."dunno....

Reminds me of Outlaw Star (especially the voice), only for younger kids.
Coding? What coding? It looks like Dreamweaver barfed all over your source code.
It's alright, not quite sure what to think of it. I could see it working out pretty well.

Love the Jacques Dutronc

• Does it make sense? Do you get the basic premise?
yes, it made sense. it's hard for me to get excited though because it just looks so rough. I'm wanting to see a more polished presentation of the characters, you know?• Do you think the audience of PowerPuff girls and other shows like that would watch this.
From what I just saw, no. The route that the style of the cartoon is drawn in seems like would fit more of an adult swim audience. Power Puff and Spongebob and Foster's are much more bubbly and childish.I would say be sure to present a deeper character development and better, more stylized renderings of these characters in addition to this clip. Also, if time allows, maybe do a 2 minute mini episode (even if rough like this) to show interaction, charater and humor among the main players.
- I'm glad point5 wrote all this, because I don't have to and can just agree with him. +1Mojo

the voice is awkward

THanks, Point5. I tend to agree all around.
It is still sort of rough. Time isn't on our side, and there are some people who want to talk , so we're trying to put our best foot out there with what we can.
PowerPuff Girls was probably a bad example. SpaceGhost, Thundarr, these are more the real inspirations.

The skull reminds me of Murray from The Curse of Monkey Island (and pre/sequels)

ok.
i liked the look-and-feel in general, but the animation was pretty flat. it wasn't a "cartoon," but a bunch of manipulated multi-layered stills. maybe i'm expecting too much, but i was expecting to see characters walk, move, turn around, speak, that kind of thing.but the trailer had good-looking characters and stuff, a good overall flow, buildup, etc.
my two cents is that the quality of your trailer is what folk will look at. your page worked fine, so unless you're applying for an HTML coder gig, i wouldn't even think twice about that.
but if you're trying to sell the animation, then I think you need some more actual animation.
- harlequino0
We're trying to sell the 'concept', not the animation itself. Our goal is to get interested prod. companies to develop/license it, or buy the creative property.
Yes it is essentially still art manipulated in After Effects. I'm not a real cartoonist or animator in that respect.
Again, trying to make the best with what i have. :)

If you want a prod company to take it, it's gotta look more professional I think
- SlowX0
ok, thought you wanted feedback on the actual animation.
for me, the premise was just ok, not terribly unique. but maybe it'd be better if you could get a mini focus group of your target audience (which i ain't part of, i'm guessing)
then again, the comic con is this weekend, so maybe you're better off just polishing any last second rough edges and seeing what happens.
:)

I appreciate the thoughts. Mainly looking for overall concept I guess, but any feedback is very helpful.
Personally, I feel like this is not yet finalized in terms of concept. I share some of the feeling of "premise is just ok." This is why we are not investing money or getting a booth at a tradeshow. Trying to build. Need to rewrite, polish, all of that. Cheers.

My only constructive criticism would be to make the movie larger in size. The small movie seemed so insignificant at that small size on the page, considering that it isprobably by far the interesting content on the page.
