Sorry, I'm going to have to get militant on this subject, as it's something I've invested much of my adult life in.
Unless you're a slightly retarded, gin-sodden 80 year old wife from landed gentry with IBS, you NEVER, EVER put in milk first.
Think of it scientifically - fats and lipids in the milk interfere with the dissolution of tea into the hot water solvent, both by pre-emptively taking up space in the water and by reducing the temperature to below the ideal 95 degrees required for the perfect cuppa.
Once your tea has brewed, I'm all for sticking the milk in before you remove the teabag - just, for the love of Christ, not when you first start making a cup of tea.
Your premature milk spurting saddens me more than I can possibly describe.

milk can go in first but ONLY if the tea has first been brewed in a teapot.
under NO circumstances should a tea bag ever come into contact with milk.

I'm glad you've put this into a scientific explanation Nairn - I don't drink the stuff and never will, but can not get my head round milk first, even though a girl here in work is a total fascist for it.
She does my coffee the same way and neither the coffee nor the sugar ever properly dissolves.
Some people are so thick it make me spew.

95 degrees is a horribel temperature for tea, you can't drink it or taste the tanin.i like the tanin. I bet your tea looks like dishwater.

Fair enough - high 90's is what you want temperature-wise. Too hot, however, and you'll actually burn your tea, which reduces seriously diminishes the teas taste and 'tanninicity'.
Green teas actually want to be a lot colder, which is something I only learned of recently.

MILK FIRST!!! YESSSSS!!!
I've been doing this since I was tall enough to reach the kettle. Milk first, 2 sweeteners (saccharin only), pour hot water ONTO THE BAG, not just in the cup, 8 stirs anti-clockwise.
