Do you know what amuses me and saddens me in equal measure? I'll tell you...
What i really hate about the creative industry these days is the puffed up hype-feed some small-to-midsize studio's put out about themselves... usually the ones who publish "Newsletters" that arrive, all fast breathing and big eyed in your inbox or get published on the studio website.
Please, please, could everyone stop trying to take a small granule of humble work and blow it up out of all proportion in a desperate attempt to seem more exciting than you actually are. Don't get me wrong, its really very effective. Very effective that is, for about three seconds after you've read all the exciting news and you then realise you can't remember a damn thing that the studio has produced. So you look back and realise why.
I find this happens a lot with a couple of studios in particular who I check out from time to time out of curiosity. I go... OOH BLIMEY! AREN'T THEY DOING WELL!!!! and then I go back over it and realise they've done nothing at all for three months but have somehow mastered the art of writing it up to sound like Donald Trump's annual report.
WHO'S TEACHING THESE PEOPLE THESE CORROSIVE ANTI-SKILLS? Its awful. Its bad for business becuase it confuses the genuinely succesful with the industry seagulls all swooping about trying to nick chips out of the hands of unsuspecting ... erm... unsuspecting... I can't continue with the seagull metaphor, sorry... but YOU GET MY DRIFT DON'T YOU.
Who's out there "mentoring" these young halfwits in the art of making mountains out of molehills?
Lets find the guru (he's bound to be a 'guru'), and shoot him (its bound to be a him).

is that not usually the main purpose of design, to get peoples attention and make mountains out of molehills? sounds like you have more of an issue with the writing than the design though.

Oh yeah, its not the work, its the bluster. Its false. The design industry used to be about honesty and it was the politicians who massaged reality to find favour. Now its the designers who have greasey little desires to hoodwink and blag. Its not very honourable... I don't care what the work's like, if it isn't yours don't put it in your newsletter (point 01).
I must rest, I'm getting all wild eyed and there's spit coming out of my mouth as I type.

I tell you what, if there's money to be made writing this kind of shoite, I'm your man. Send me a list of things you've done over the last three months and I'll work my own brand of guru magic on it.
