i ran across one of these for sale on e-bay. i always knew sublimation as a technique used for apparel but seems you can use it as a desktop printer and produce professional looking prints. anyone have experience using/owning one?

i have no idea .. just wondering if anyone has any experience with them and noticed there were no threads or mention of them anywhere within qbn and thought that was strange.

i always thought of them as printing textiles (as you said) and plastics etc.
didn't realize photographers use dye sub for paper prints, as the wiki says. i guess this would be comparible quality to Cibachromes?

allot of event photographers i know use them 'cause their very very fast and the paper is usually self laminating.
color is a problem though. they are known to be very difficult to balance.

the inks are pretty expensive though the printers themselves are fairly reasonable. just curious how often the cartridges need changing, how the outcome matches up to other options .. etc.
i'm making a promotional piece for a photographer friend and thought it could be a good option for him so he could change out the photos for different clients.

They print well but the running costs are pretty high, well they were 8 years ago. Found the colour on the prints would fade really quickly and was terrible for sticking to the inside of sleeves..

ahh .. so there's a reason no one talks about them. thanks.
