what's up with using the term "producer" in a web environment? it just sounds so pretentious in this industry. if anything, they're really project managers.
shouldn't that term be left with the film/tv industry?thoughts?

I don't know.. the term producer is so tied to the TV/Movie/Music industry that you may confuse people.
Its like using developer instead of programmer, unless you clearly say WEB-developer then I'm going to think you are in the construction business..Of course I don't really have a saying on what words should be used or not used so my statement above is irrelevant..

i don't like using the term, but my company uses it.
actually, "producers" using the term "web producer" which i find just as confusing. when someone first told me they were a "web producer" i thought that that had something to do with flash ads.

maybe it has something to do with career standing and salary placement within the company pigeon holing whom ever that is to fit into a certain salary demographic limiting any real salary upgrade due to the title and what it speaks to others.
- totally. its just a word.
a way to detect the ego of whom holds the card, that's all it is.Meeklo

i think producer is an apt title for someone who works on large interactive projects. sometimes, when you are dealing with tons of video and 3d compositing, building those sites are very similar to producing a movie.
hence...producer.
