Hi all,
Hey, anyone know of a site I can purchase a vector map of London, with street names etc. I can't be arsed to spend the time drawing one up myself.
Cheers,
P

Phatlee - cheers - found that one too, and it's not quite detailed enough unfortunately.
Dancer - Thanks, I'm actually in that streetmap view myself, and it's far simpler than the map the client has scanned for me with every detail of place, monument, and embassy of every corner - oh well, illustrator it is! Thankfully I only have to do about a 2 square mile of London, but that's going to be harsh enough!
Cheers

Don't miss out any roads though... i bloody hate 'designer' maps that do that... as it makes it hard to work out where you are and defeats the object really

Nice, thanks neverblink!! I was after a map of London too!

Yeah I had to fill all that. Schools, barracks, foot paths and colour code the bitch like on SM. 2Sq miles would be around 4 days work I reckon

Neverblink! Thanks mate, I hit that link, and whoever created that pdf didn't flatten it, or optimise the pdf, so opened in illus, I've got it all there! Still, I've got to put in all the streets inside the main road, and name them all, but I reckon you've knocked a third off for me. Cheers

nice link. shame it only has the streets with bus routes on them. still though, it's a good start.

Tracing is not that annoying to do, the streetnames are the timekiller since you have to find the locations back on your own blank map..

whoever did this mofo want's to think about making people who want to use their work's lives easier - Layers buddy, layers! Tex on one layer, roads on one layer......

in Illustrator: "select > same ..." is your friend Fleaguru

I hate it when clients want a map but have no idea how many countless hours it takes to create on. they think you can just scan one and then magically edit it

neverblink is right. Then: Apple + x, Apple + f onto a new layer.
I had a layer for roads, a layer for the road edges, a layer for names and a layer for fills, place about 20 more layers for all the various road colours and their relative keylines

Guys, thanks very much for this. Had enough mappage for today, going back to actionscript - nice - what joys!
