What about Appropriation?

that's really not the product of a filter?
huh.

I wish the estate of Che Guvera, or at least the guy who took that photo, would start cracking down on this.

The sad thing is.....this looks EXACTLY like a filter or a live trace.
Not that I don't believe you or am saying you didn't do a great job didn't....but I gotta wonder what the point might be if everybody looking at it is gonna yell "Watercolor Filter" and move on.
I guess I wonder why you chose this look rather than going for something decidedly more stylized that had more of a personalized look.
I teach some Adobe Illustrator classes and try to direct students to make something that embraces the vector look and not try to recreate a photograph as it were.
Just curious on your thoughts.

I think it looks great, but since it's a copy of someone else's work, yeah, there are copyright issues at play there.
I'd guess you'd get away with it on a small level, but not on a mid-to-grand scale.

I guess what I'm saying is that you can take your chances, but there's no fooling that there's an issue there if you are using this for commercial purposes.
For example, some poor fellow got his ass sued off a handful of years ago for using... can't remember now... the Superman logo, maybe? Whatever, some big name copyrighted image as part of his used car dealership's promo campaigns.
In the end, not a good idea at all.
- wow! that sucks. I don't want any trouble. I'm not trying to make money but it was for a contest so I'll probably just email them to take it down. Thanks.cbass99
- sufjan stevens had take off the superman illustration from his illinoise album coveremukid
- I'm just going to take it down. I don't want any trouble, just wanted a cool shirt to wear.
cbass99 - you could make a shirt for yourself to wear. I don't th ink there's any problem with that.ninjasavant

Think about it in terms of music. A band could take a song and recreate it, note by note, using their own instruments. That doesn't mean they can market the song on a CD. For example Vanilla Ice or The Verve's Bittersweet Symphony.
