why does ff mac need !important for the hovers to work? can you show me the html page? is .navLinks class applied to a div or what?

sorry, it doesn't need !important, but safari is still buggered.
- I'm sure it's something really stupid. I'll hang my head in shame when someone figures it out.

Why are you defining ".navLinks a"? I'm pretty sure you don't really define a style for that... just a:link, a:hover, a:active, a:visited

the link to the stylesheet isn't correct. when i copy the css and paste it straight into the doc, it works fine
- stupidresponse0
also, the link tag needs to self close: /> at the end

The link to the stylesheet works fine, because I've got it in the css/ folder.. it didn't work for you because it will be in the same location as the html file. It works for me stored locally. Links are just buggy in Safari for whatever reason.

alright so this is what happens.. I'll try to make it make sense.
In Firefox (mac): Visited links will not hover
In Safari (mac): Visited links will not hover, non-Visited links have an overline in their normal state, although it is only defined to come out when hovered, hover still changes color.wha?

what version of safari? i don't see this behavior at all.
also, technically your link tag is not valid. fix it. it's bothering me. capital letters and no closure are 2 no-no's

I haven't looked at your code, but define the hover pseudoclass after visited. Safari can handle links just fine.

yep. all sorted.
