Never been there, never had any interest really.
Heading out there for work this week, and I wonder what you might recommend doing while there?
I'm embarrassed to admit that I've pretty well prejudged that city as a red neck enclave full or fat americans, a place where GW Bush still reigns king.
However, like any big city, I'm sure it has some cool spots. What about good bars, restaurants, etc? I'm into art and rock and art rock and booze and that type of shiite.

Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth is nice! I like it better than the one in Dallas.

You can dress like a metrosexual and hang around the West End and get made fun of by suburban doldrum dwelling wannabe cowboys that thought they were kings during their high school football glory days.
That pretty much sums up everything about why I'm glad I moved.

Wait, I'll correct myself on that: never been in that particular situation I described above. More so, just don't like the mentality I described.

I do highly suggest eating at the Traildust Steakhouse, and ordering the Bullshipper porterhouse.
It's like more than 50 ounces and more than 2 inches tall. I've had it many, many times.

The best thing about Dallas is it's close enough of a drive to Austin.

There are still some good places around Dallas. I guess it depends what you're interested in. Try this: http://www.guidelive.com/

Lower Greenville is fun and has a pretty good selection of artsy rock type places in close proximity to one another. Of course, the Magnolia is right down the street from Deep Ellum. Just keep goin on Commerce and you'll end up there. Lower Greenville would probably suit you better though.
Dubliner and Old Monk are great places. You'd probably like Lee Harvey's too.

Gotta do Dealy plaza & experience the history
Saw the BMRC at The HOB downtown....there seem to be soem good downtown bars...I don't remember the names....was a bit pickled at the time....not my favorite city, but I wouldn't really call it that rednecky though...i can think of many other cities that warrant that label a lot more.- Austin is a lot better...drive there instead. Houston is a total Shitehole however.marychain

The hipsters here have a habit of taking the newest trends and trying way too hard. Oak Cliff/Bishop Arts is nice. Lower Greenville and Fair Park.
Funny that people come here thinking there's cowboys and rednecks (which there are) but instead see that there is just a lot of plastic surgery, beemers, and people dying to get into the new "Exclusive" list only club.
- I'm just bitter because all the old cool neighborhoods are being razed. Condo boom.rylamar
