Shit Mojo, sorry to say, but come up with a story yourself. It's your marriage after all. That counts too, just in case you aren't listening. It's your neck on the line.

All I was asking for, was to hear some accounts of how people proposed to their lovelies. That's all. I wasn't begging for advice on how to pop the question. It's a wonderful thing, and I wondered what kind of things creative people around here would do. That's it.

And don't give me that "fail" or "fouty" crap coz you know I'm speaking the truth. It's up to you.

given the success rates of marriages these days you should come up with something memorable to you. that way you can tell people about all the ways you proposed to all your failed marriages

Well, then here's another story - when I married I didn't proposed anything. We both decided on what we should do next - and that felt great, for both of us. It wasn't anyone's idea: it was our own idea, in a new kind of meaning.
- Both of our parents have done this. Just .. jointly decided to get wed. I wanna do it properly :)Mojo
- ok. I'm trying to get your point.********

Her reaction could('ve) changed over time. I need 24-hour updates.

one of my mates lives in the bush/forest. one day when his girl was at work he went for a walk and hid a tuxedo in the bushes along with an engagement ring. when his girlfriend came home he suggested they take the dog for a walk. they're walking along and he throws the dog a stick, and then pretends to go and help him look for the stick. he emerges after a while in his tuxedo and pops the question. she loved it and it's still talked about to this day. oh yeah, he took pics too. magic!
- legend! that's the kinda thing I was hoping to hear :D haha, that's great.Mojo

I met my wife on a Christmas Eve in a pub. I managed to not bore her talking about magic markers. I didn't know it then but she was a graduate of the Slade and was entranced by the fact that I was a designer. She left the island about 4 weeks later to go to St Martins to study animation. She was back within 2 weeks and I proposed on a beach in Jersey on a cold wet blustery morning. This beach in fact
We married a year later. That was coming up to 5 years ago now and we're very happy still. It helps that we're both creative so she doesn't flip out when I get all OCD about stuff. This is her She makes stuff.

Someone I know took his girlfriend and her dog on a beautiful walk at their favorite beach. When she wasn't looking he tied the ring to her dog's collar. A little later they were walking hand in hand and he decided it was time for the deed and so called her dog over. He got down on one knee took her by the hand and looked on rather embarrassed as her dog began humping his leg.

I've always liked to think that (if and) when the time comes to propose I'd do it in a creative way, though that just opens me up to failure. Maybe keeping it simple should be the new creative way, though I have plenty of time for my luck to improve.

I had a few different simple things that I did, when I proposed. I took her to our favorite restaurant. We ate with my parents. While there, my brother put the glow in the dark sign that said "Will you marry me." above my door. He also placed the scrapbook I had made, next to my computer. When we got home, we went into my room and she sat down at the computer turned on the song I had picked for her to play (making memories of us - rehab guy). On the last page of the scrap book, I had - "Do you want to spend the rest of your life making memories of us?"
She turned around, I turned off the light so she could see the sign, got down on one knee and proposed. First thing she said was, turn on the light I can't see anything. Then, of course she said yes.
