Do you guys realize that municipalities have funded their operation and pension plans with reams of this bad paper? The town where my mom lives is closing the local library, can't afford to fix potholes and has announced that the pension fund for retired city workers might be gone. Seriously, and each time a referendum comes up in the local election to raise local taxes all the local Republicans toe the party line and are like "All the welfare queens are getting free money!" Jesus. It's like the fucking blind. Where is the money going to come from for police, fire, sanitation? For road maintenance? And all the citizenry thing somehow that paying no taxes is ideal. Unreal. There is no sense of the Common Good anywhere anymore here. You know, you get what you pay for and that works for governments too.
- if you think the overextension of social programs has zero effect on our economy you are ridiculousDUKIE0822

"All that we have to do is to send two mujahedeen to the furthest point east to raise a piece of cloth on which is written al Qaeda, in order to make generals race there to cause America to suffer human, economic and political losses without their achieving anything of note other than some benefits for their private corporations," bin Laden said.

"US living standards, which have been stagnant for years, will plummet once dollar decline forces China off the dollar peg. So far prices of the Chinese-made goods on Wal-Mart shelves have not risen, because the Chinese currency, pegged to the dollar, falls in value with the dollar. In a word, tottering US living standards are being supported by China’s willingness to subsidize US consumption by keeping its currency grossly undervalued."
March 12, 2008, Paul Craig Roberts, Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan administration. Former Associate Editor of the Wall Street Journal editorial page and Contributing Editor of National Review.

It's only so that the Republicans can say "Republicans give you free money, the democrats just want to tax you more," in the general election.
- Exactly. Distract serfs and rubes with the "Oh! Shiny!" tactic.TheBlueOne
- that's funny because the democrats wanted to extend the benefits to more peopleDUKIE0822

I love the way the market responded to the Feds move yesterday to basically buy a whole bunch of crappy paper off their hands using taxpayer dollars. The American people just suddenly owned $200 billion in bad fucking loans. The Wall Street people basically said "Yeah! We're screwing the peons again! Rally!!!" And then for half the day the market tanked today and then it jumped because some morons stated far too over-optimistically "Hey! We're at the bottom of the subprime problem!"
What a fucking joke. All the market fundamentals ar ein the fucking shitter. As these things continue to tank in the weeks ahead THEN what is the Fed going to do? Buy MORE bad loans? Meanwhile we're burning a few billion a day in Iraq...
God, the Saudis and the Chinese are laughing they're fucking asses off...but hey! I'm getting $300 in the mail! Thank you Trickle-Down-Compassionate-Conse... Money Management! You guys rock!!
