I am this day listening to a little compilation called “Indie Rock Playlist March 2008”, which, I gather is the latest and greatest from the world of indie rock – it is apparently “guaranteed fresh”. You see, I’m trying to open my ears to some new sounds, etc, but it seems I missed a memo somewhere along the way. Thus, I ask you QBNers, why the fuck is nearly every indie band out there trying to sound like Modest fucking Mouse>!>?!
Now, I don’t mind Modest Mouse, but come on! Even the bands with chick singers come off sounding like them. Is this meant to be the new wave of drunken sailor music, or something?
Are they all going to sound like Arcade Fire next month?

You got the mainstream end of the indie stick. Which is sadly, a lot of it now.
There's some good ones, but you might have to dig pretty deep to get to the pure.
- I guess. I didn’t used to be so hard – fucking myspace. =)MrOneHundred

fuck indie rock. is this a post from "stuff white people like"?
- No, but I am white and I like, amongst much else, indie rock.
Problem?MrOneHundred - yes, you.********
- ...and "indie rock" in general. boring tripe. a million kids with guitars crying doesn't do it for me.********
- Read my original post, dick-head.MrOneHundred

It beats when everyone was trying to sound like Stone Temple Pilots

I’m curious now about what subimage would have me do about reforming my honky white-ass ways. I would love to know what music he/she recommends.

@MrOneHundred
no prob, anything to darken your tastes in music.
some of it you'll probably dig, some of it you'll probably hate, but at least it's not "indie rock"
- Trust me, I have a much broader taste than indie rock, just always on the lookout for quality.MrOneHundred

MrOneHundred, are you into electronica? If so, I could recommend some great new sounds. :)

It will be disappearing soon enough.
I think that's why I prefer indie bands with female singers. I can't some of the voices. And I realize that the music is important as well (obviously), but it's hard to get past the voice for certain bands. That, and the bands that play REALLY slow music. Personally, I don't like the combo of a crappy voice and slow music.
- I agree. If the singer is no good, or at least very interesting, then I’m not interested.MrOneHundred
- * I can't STAND some of the voicesJaline

I never liked indie rock at the time, but I have to admit I get nostalgic when I hear some of the songs that were popular when I was in college, even crappy one like Third Eye Blind and Bush.

Yeah, I let the Pixies fly right under my radar, and almost missed Smashing Pumpkins in their prime.

that was the golden era. when people say indie rock i think of the second wave that came out in the late 90s and since.
