Itunes Questions

Got some general itunes questions as follows now that I'm a) using a Mac and b) finally using my 80 GB ipod.

    1) I imported all the songs from my PC into itunes, and it is in the itunes music folder. I want to now move all of this from the Mac to an external drive, and switch itunes' music folder to the external drive.

Can I just physically move them and itunes will update itself? Or do I need to move them and then reimport into itunes?

    2) I'm now using the auto-sync since my music directory is 45GB and ipod is 80GB. Do I then just make changes to songs in itunes and it will update the ipod automatically? Do playlists work the same way?

    3) If I rip CDs with itunes, does it add the songs in a corresponding artist>album folder in the directory? Or does it hide it somehow and only make available in itunes? I've got other software to burn discs with as well so I prefer to always be able to access all music.

Thanks. And madirish, not a word! :D

    1) dunno
    2) yes
    3) Both, assuming that you tell iTunes to keep your music folder organized in the options.

I didn't read this. All I know is that itunes is the biggest piece of shit.

    1. Go into your iTunes prefs, go to advanced and click "change". Select the external drive that you wish to keep your music in.

Now go to Advanced in the menu and select "Consolidate Library"

May take a while but it will transfer everything from your current drive to the newly selected drive.

As a side note, iTunes is also smart enough to switch back and forth from the default iTunes folder to the external drive whenever you are away from your network, so if you are elsewhere with your MBP and decide to import some new music, it will place the music in your default (factory set) folder. Once you get back to your home network, it will automatically switch back, but you will have to consolidate again to place the new music into your external.
