Why use CSS at all?

I've just returned to web design after a 3 year break. I’m from the 'Table Generation' and arrived back into a world of Web Accessibility, Web Standards, and CSS domination. The research and developments in Web Standards and Accessibility are very important to bring the best possible most accessible web experience to all and it is a good practice to separate content from appearance. But I have to admit the learning curve for CSS Positioning and Structuring doesn’t really warrant the replacement of Structural markup with Tables. I’m going back to tables and using CSS to style everything else. Tables work in all browsers. If it isn't broke why fix it?

but that is the thing- it IS broke.
- How did you get your username madirish?diarmuidmaccormack

Perfect example.
Just look at how your ridiculous name goes right into your post. If it wasn't for CSS the entire page would be fucking goofy.
Goofy like you're fucking goofy name.

Its not that hard to learn chief, just do one website to start yourself off and away you go.

whats so hard? look up the box model... done
youd think someone who uses tables would already understand this
- ukit0
So you're trying to justify tables because you're too dumb to learn CSS?

Goofy like you're fucking goofy name. ...

I don't understand Neanderthals such as yourself.
You are perfectly willing to try and defend an argument that you know is wrong, but will blindly look for reasonings as to why tables are still relevant.
Put that time into learning CSS you donkey.
...
I'm sorry if my posts are coming off as curt, I'm Jerome, but this is just a sore subject. Stop using tables. Just fucking stop.
- you ok man? how about you sit down for a breather... want a soda? how about some ice cream? its gonna be ok********

I still use tables from time to time, depends on the budget of the project whether it warrants kicking myself in the nuts to make sure the css works in all browsers or not.
- I hate tables with a vengeance because I always get the "simple" task of updating old sites ... that are all in tables and inline styles.********
- ... and in-line styles.
ARgh.******** - flavourful...SMASH!ian
- hahahai totally feel your pain... i usually just scrap the old code and redo it...********

The thing is, CSS is just as easy as tables once you get the hand of it. And you can make it work cross-browser. It's just a matter of figuring out how to do it.

Coincidentially, are you hosting your private portfolio on the back of your companies site or do you own the company? Just seems a little strange...
- if you are referring to me, I have had that domain for ages.mrdobolina
- No, not you dobs, diarmuid. Link in the profile links to a site thats on the back of anotherian
- ahmrdobolina
- The company is my freelance operation and the portfolio off the main site I used for getting full time work. I do agree it looked strange so I changed the hosting subsequently. I must update this link in my profile. Thats for noticingdiarmuidmaccormack

why wake up?

The time you spend learning how to do it the right way will pay for itself the first time you need to make major changes to a site and complete that task in about 30 minutes.

to just make it clear, I generally use css but have and still will use tables from time to time. stop trying to shove me in the incinerator you f-ing nazis.

I'll never stop using tables. Or frames. But then again, I'm a print designer, thankfully.

if you're going to give up 'cause of the hard learning curve, why do anything? that curve will make you better.
