Anyone out there report success using Joomla or just headaches? Was asked to use it for a client.

I used it for a photography forum I run. I found it pretty easy to work with and easy to skin as its themes are CSS based.

Thanks dude, appreciate it. I was thinking of buying a template and then skinning it to the best of my abilities.

Dont buy a template, plenty of decent ones out there that are basically a blank canvas ready for you to work on. If you need a forum/board look at the fireboard forum plugin from the best of joomla guys, its the best I have used and is so simple to install. Easy for clients to maintain too if they can read a manual.

don't forget the dreamweaver Joomla-plugin when you want to make the templates yourself.
we used it for this http://www.o-p-a.nl/

do not use it. it is a dying breed and the data, node/content model is hell on earth. i am not saying this from perspective of being part of the community, but Drupal will offer you much more given the architecture and languages you are looking for.
just read some development reviews of Joomla as get a sense of it before you dive in.

i've been supporting a couple joomla sites for several years now (originally mambo) and i must agree with madirish on this one, best to avoid in my opinion.
