Anyone know of any apps, or methods to make the process of migrating my sites from one host to another? I need to keep file permissions, etc...
Thx!

Are you on linux?
Check our rsync.

if you're using a basic cpanel host you can archive your www/mail/databases via that. otherwise, rsync keeps permissions, and then manually backup databases or export to a file from phpmyadmin or such. Also, if you have control over your DNS zone settings, set the TTL to a low number a day before the switch. It'll get picked up quicker usually by the root DNS servers.

i'll check out rsync...it looks like it should do what I need.
Thx.

wow, actually looks quite complex. Anything easier out there? Ideally an app to transfer from one sever to another, I could do the database stuff myself.
thx.

If it's just flat files and you do the databases manually, why not just download from the current server and upload to the new one?

still looking for an easier solution...i'm not a command line kind of guy...
downloading and uploading won't work, i have 5 sites to migrate, and all the files and folders have different permissions.
anyone know of anything easier than rsync?
Thx.

you can export the entire db (structure, data) with phpmyadmin to one file and upload that to the new server through phpmyadmin.
if anything you may just have to modify your dbaccess file that allows the scripts access to the database, in case of a different naming convention.
Hopefully that is the most extensive solution that you'd need.
