Just starting out with dj'ing and have been scouring Youtube for videos to see what I really gravitate towards.
I thought this was pretty slick because even though it has a lot of technical things going on, I love the fact it still retains a basic composition and is fairly listen-able to someone who doesn't even know a thing about dj'ing.
Hell, look at his routines from DMC and you'll see a huge difference. Anyone got any videos of dj's they like?

Dexta from Avalanches. If you ever get to see the Avalanches live...theyre incredible. Couldnt find any clips of them but always good fun.

I have that Avalanches album from a couple years ago. Ridiculous amount of samples.

If you want to get girls, stay away from turntableism.
Become a party DJ, you will have more fun.

Wasn't really a goal from the get-go, but duly noted.

Hopefully you detected my sarcasm, sorry.
But seriously, I find spinning parties more fun
with less politics and BS. I have been djing since
1988, and in my experience, by all means explore
and learn everything ya can. And make sure to
ALWAYS have fun with it, b/c that's what its all about
in the first place. Good luck man!

Nah its cool man, I know what you mean. I'm not looking to a career out of it or anything, just want to doing it in spare time and maybe do a couple parties here and there eventually.

Only DJ I've really ever been able to tolerate actually watching was Fat Boy Slim.

i like numark too.
these guys (along with djs like cut chemist, kid koala, and dj shadow) are technical from the standpoint that they know music and they can weave different styles together to move people, along with all the other aspects of being a good dj.
- That Jacksons sample continues to bring a smile to face every-time i hear it.leadtrum

One DJ that I always was inspired by was Kid Capri (pre Def comedy jam stuff). When he used to put our mix tapes (cassettes), they were always bangers. I have some footage on vhs when MTV did this show called "MTV Rave". It was at the Limelight in NYC,and Kid capri was djing, Futura 2000 was painting a mural and people were going apeshite. it was a quick, like 3-4 minute clip, but it was so awesome. This was like 90-91 I think?
