Shit! This is weird, I get a large chunky black border around anything I select and duplicate Apple menu items, e.g.
sleep
sleep
shutdown
shutdown etc....Whats going on????

but seriously thoug, i take you have restarted and all that?
you could try resetting the PRAM just for kicks, or checking out your monitor prefs, and rebooting from OSX cd and see if that happens on those menus...

Just done a shutdown incase someone was hacking into my machine. That didn't work. Il try re-set.

LOL, I just turned my stereo speakers on!!! Phew, bit of a relief tbh.

It's a common thing, lots of people at work with sound turned down.
It can also be reactivated by keyboard shortcuts, so check those too.

i once heard a voice on my speakers...it wasn't a song, or a computer voice. more like someone speaking to a microphone very briefly. that was scary.

if you turn off some of the shortcut keys through systems preferences, that will fix things further down the road when you accidentally hit a shortcut...
