I've got a website I'd like to turn into CMS. Anybody know of any software to do this re-design with, or of any good ways of using Wordpress as a CMS, I'm familiar with Wordpress .

there is lots of very well architected software, eegrek. much of this depends though, on the language and dev environment you will be/want to work in.
share those things, and answers will become more detailed

To be honest, it would be my first CMS. I'm pretty proficient in Flash, Actionscript, and HTML but not a real CSS pro or php (just from messing around with wordpress). I like to learn though and this isn't for a client so I have no deadlines, I just want to learn. Silverstripe looks cool.

Wordpress is flexible because it can be used as a CMS or blog. There are lots of plugins available and once you learn the layout its really quite straight forward.
Look around for a blank uptodate template so you can start clean. Trying to hack apart their default templates kinda sucks.
I use WP all the time now for most clients. My suggestion would be to find one CMS you really like and learn it well. Saves so much time in the long run.
Silverstripe is nice too but probably better off for med to large sized sites.
- Thanks Sherman, that was my initial thought. any blank up to date themes you know about?eegrek

i would actually argue that learning a loose framework, with multiple CMS options availale for it might be better....... maybe. this is only coming to mind with the idea of building Flash/Flex sites/apps
