I'll be building quite a large portfolio website for a large film firm in town, I had a couple of quick contract questions to ask you brilliant designers out there:
1) In your contracts, do you own the copyright of the work you design and program? Who owns what?
2) Do you setup a maintance contract early on or after the website is built?

Although maybe they shouldn't be, I think these two issues are connected.
If you're business model is to supply hosting and maintenence, you would probably never even turn the source files over to the client. You would keep hold of everything, pending the hosting/maintenence payments.
If you turn over the files to the client, and you aren't involved in the hosting, then the copyright is much more of a pertinent issue.

Thank you Andy, interesting take. We are not involved in the hosting (MediaTemple already serves them), but I imagine they will call on us in the future to make changes to the code, graphics, and whatnot.
