We all know the deal..don't work for family or friends...sigh...
Last year my brother said he wanted a website for some fantasy sports league he wanted to do..he talked this big game - going to do a draft in Atlantic City, $1000 a head..whatever. I don't follow or understand this whole fantasy sports stuff anyway.
So I told him I could set up a basic ABOUT site and maybe a paid signup service for him, but as far as integrating the backend programs to run one of these sports fantasy things he'd have to find someone else, as I'm 99% a front end guy...
I wasn't going to do it for free, but really really deep discount - he is my brother...so I did some illustartor & html mockups, created a logo, and got some decent stock art for him and even did a few tshirts, which I did get paid for.
Then he kept saying "Is the site done?" To whit I said - "Where is the content? What do you want to say? What are you selling? Is there a breakdown for sections...I mean I have no idea what you're doing..."
Months of him planning to get together and then "Oh dude I am hungover/the giants are on/I woke up late/too tired to meet up..." excuses form him. Nothing going.
The he calls me this morning saying "I need to get this up today!! I have potential investors..."
Um, no. Ain't happening.

I feel your pain chief. But if its your brother you can thwack him over the head without fear of ruining your business reputation, right?

Keep in mind my brother in 1999 bought sidelink.com as a domain, made up t-shirts that said "Sidelink: It's Going To Be Big". I asked him what he was going to do with it and he said, "You know, make side links and charge people for it. Side links..get it..side links....it's going to be big..."
Um, nothing came of that either ,but we've had the whole "It's going to be be big" catch phrase be very useful for years in our circles..

it's a never ending dilemma when you get in the situation like this. i avoid doing any work for family, friends or friend's friend or any of that type. i spent more time explaining about the process and requirement than doing actual work, and they still don't get it and expect everything yesterday.
btw, i see your friend is on Prison Break more and more. it's kinda funny seeing him on TV.

Ha!! even better, he just called me and told me send him whatever files I had made to date (logo, stock art...) and a guy at his company (an investment bank) who is real good at power point is going to put a website together for him....

Its weird, I did a job for my sister, she told me I could do whatever I wanted so I did, gave her back one option and she was delighted.
Then it took ages to get the actual content but in principle, easiest job I did (excluding the amount of stress and pressure I put upon meself to get something I liked!)

Oh it's easy, same deal, just waiting on the content. But he didn't give me any and then says "I need it today!!" Haha. Um, no. Don't get the wrong impression, there's nothing argumentative going on, he knows he didn't get me anything...
