Austin police say that a 28-year-old former employee of an Austin company
that develops and maintains Web sites deleted several client sites before he
hacked into his boss’ computer to send e-mails to the boss’ wife and clients
defaming the company.According to an arrest affidavit, Arunabh Das was fired from Pixeldust
Interactive, a South Congress Avenue company of six employees, around 4 p.m.
on Sunday. His boss, Mick Southerland, told police he fired Das because he
had not made satisfactory progress on a project. Investigators say that Das
then deleted information from two Web servers and a database server for
www.rottenneighbor.com. Rottenneighbor.com had been built and maintained by
Pixeldust for about $80,000 in the past six months, the affidavit says.Police said Das also deleted several other Web sites. Das was charged with
breach of computer security, a second-degree felony. The affidavit says that Das told Southerland he was holding the Web site
hostage until he received his paycheck. Though Southerland said that checks
weren’t being dispersed until the following week, Das hacked into
Southerland’s e-mail account and sent e-mails to Southerland’s clients and
family defaming the company, according to the affidavit.
