Let me see if I can explain it any better...
Maybe an "inventory explorer" something similar to, but different from your standard "search" mechanism.
hmmm... I guess, it's hard for me to articulate. DAMN IT ALL TO HELL!

Ya, I'm over thinking this.
It's the same metaphor as searching through someones portfolio for specific examples or a particular type of work. Say; abstract business cards- tags might be something like: Grunge, retro, 1960's, vintage illustration.
