I just found this - and lo and behold, it works pretty well and writes decent code, you just need to messabout with it a bit.
Visual Quickmenu:

- IF you have to make menus, definitely download it and give it a shot
flashbender - I was impressed, but I'm a designer who codes, so maybe I am easily impressed, but it has saved me a lot of time.flashbender

thanks ill try that later, basically how adobes drop down menus work, with the top button staying highlighed when you go down the drop down list

I would be that adobes top level nav does not have an "OnRollOut" reset - that they have the divs tight up against each other and they use a reset all/turn current header on function and the dropdowns have a "turn current header off" function OnRollOut

why not just use css?

you need to target the dropdown list (not top level) using css. For example: #nav ul li ul li { background: none; } you can target each level of nav with their own styles.

Adobe's Spry Ajax 1.6 add-on to Dreamweaver allows for a nice drop down menu. You can also customize their CSS they have built to fit your personal needs.
