anyone here did before?
i used to do a lot as a kid.
went to some sort of acting school for kids and done several plays..today a client of mine asked me if i wanted to join their theatre play group. i wonder why.. haha, it wasn't meant cynically.. she was serious.
i could do it for the fun again.
anyone else did it or still does it? being amateur or not.. doesn't matter. tell me.

Really?
- don't think hollywood pls. it's just a very fine and well disciplined amateur theatre group. but it sounds like fun!********

I've done some theater directing in NY so I enjoy working with actors. I say do it! plus being a good actor helps you deal with crazy clients a bosses, you'd be amazed how much acting comes in handy as an adult...
- This is true.
Kind of like Dexter...Jaline - haha robotron, i was thinking the same.. surely must help.. being your own boss and all..********

I acted in plays growing up (grade school) despite the tremendous heckling I received from my friends. I liked it a lot.
Unfortunately, due to my behavoiur in all of my schools I was banned from participating in any of their functions in which I could somehow be the center of attention, or do something detrimental to the school on a grand(er) scale.
So I did local theatres for a bit (high school) until I just didn't have time for it anymore. A lot of my friends didn't/don't know I did that though. Actually, I almost went out for "Alice" at a local shop last year but pulled out at the last second.
My mother always found it incredibly discouraging and troubling that my schools took such exacting punishment on me instead of trying to cultivate my "talents." I acted up, told jokes, and everything in every class and when it came down to finally wanting to participate in something that was just that ... they would never let me.
G-d bless private schools, haha!
- Now I can just guess what you are going to post before you even do it. It all leads back to getting into trouble at school...Jaline
- went after alice but pulled out at the last second,... hahahahahaha********

- in all of which i had a long scene of pretending to sleep, in one of them i actually fell asleep********
- woke up finally when the other actor kept knocking on the door louder.. haha********

I did a few plays a few years back. I had a big role in Mojo by Jez Butterworth playing a chap called Sweets. That was great fun to do and a lot of hard work but I loved it. I was told I was good too. But a couple of the guys were really professional and are still acting today. Also had small parts in Twelfth Night, Journey's End, Heads above Water and Zero. Good times.
- I starred in The Threepenny Opera as LucyLlyod

Heh, I just dug out an old site I made for Mojo from 1999. Found the review and a preview from the local paper. I'm having waves of nostalgia. Mainly to do with my waistline.

long time ago i was 'found' by an agent downtown chicago. they invited me into their studio and had me read some parts. they had me do a real cheesy 'milk, it does a body good' ad spot where i say it then drink the milk. everything went good, they took head shots and everything. they called back a few days later saying they wanted to sign me and i'll need to pay them 3k+ to do so. uh... that's not the way it works. you pay me to work for you. i never called back. here i am. i hear i act like an ass all the time now though. so that's good.
- You were found, went to some seedy downtown studio and drank 'milk'? uh huh... you're not telling us everything here.detritus

Actually, i wouldn't mind doing stage design - if that is the proper word for the bloke who designs the scenery.

Did a bit. I enjoy directing now, and am much better with that, me thinks.
