Tony hawk was the reason I bought a PS1 back in the day, I played every single one (and finished all of them) till EA skate came out.
After Playing EA Skate for a few months, I downloaded the demo of the new TH game, and It felt like crap, Skate just destroyed the tony hawk series, graphics, realism, controls, levels, everything.
I'm pretty sure you can still download the demo for free on xbox live of both games, just try both and see what you think.
