Can anyone tell me how to format a disk so that BOTH Mac and PC can use it?
I got one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Maxtor-One…I'd want to have it in RAID I - which I suppose could complicate things (but I've absolutely no clue about these things).
Anyone know anyway to get this wee box working on my PC and on my Mac???

a large magnet works wonders for both machines...

A Mac formatted drive cannot be used by a PC, but a PC formatted drive will work on both PC and Mac. Note that Spotlight on a Mac won't be able to index a PC formatted drive nor will you be able to boot a Mac from one (and I'm pretty sure Time Machine doesn't like it).

hmmm, only works to a degree... the Mac can only read the drive - it can't write to it :(
from what I've been reading both can read and write a drive in MS-DOS format, but that causes the resource fork files and folders to show up when viewed on windows AND I'm still trying to find out if RAID I can be run on MS-DOS formatted drives... any help much appreciated.

If the drive is formatted as NTFS, Mac can read, but not write. If the drive is formatted as FAT32, Mac can do both, but FAT32 doesn't support the huge sizes of modern drives.
Best bet: There is software called MacDrive (I think) - that allows Windows to read HFS+ (Mac formatted) disks.

*mumbles something about checking which sector format macs can read AND write to - NTFS or Fat32?*

I completely agree, sikma - I don't know how many rounds of new integrationist technology waves we've gone through over the years, but shit still doesn't work together. A client brought over their Vista laptop to my place last week - could I get the fucker to speak to my XP network? Could I fuck. Ended up Skyping the damn files across, leeching off the neighbour's open wireless - probably bouncing off a server in California or something. Crazy shit.

format it NTSF and get paragon ntfs software to write to it on your mac or mount it over the network with samba
