I am masking out a person following their movements with each frame (or couple of frames) Is there any quicker way to mask it? Like an AE version of Photoshop's magic wand tool.

can't you just key a background color?

you could make a high contrast version of the video, maybe get rid of some un wanted background details then go to layer>auto trace, i think you can trace the comp work area then you have something to work with just fix details etc...the pro video guys are fast at doing it by hand.

You could copy out each frame as an image, open each one in photoshop, and with the pen tool, create a vector mask... oh wait, you said a quicker way...

ae and photoshop are great together but if you think you have to make each frame in photoshop you don't understand after effects. I've been there and in the last few months I've learnt there's always a way in ae.

color key,
you can key out the back ground,
but after effects keyer is not a good one...

nightmare :/ if there is no way to key it then unfortunatly frame by frame is pretty much the only way unless you used the auto trace function to try to get a little way there and then adjust the masks that creats but I'm clutching at straws here....
