terrible flash "rant"

i love how 90% of flash rants are from people who have no idea how to properly use it and sight faults that are easily fixed.
Sure it's not going to be as accessible or as easy to integrate as straight old static html, but if that's your concern then you probably shouldn't be using flash in the first place. And if you insist, bill for time to properly utilize it!

I kind of feel sorry for the author of that article. It's obvious the guy who wrote this isn't a professional and doesn't have a clue about Design or the Web as a platform. I feel a bit sorry for him, especially when he comes on here to try and defend his silly little article (thepda, we're looking at you)
I think a funny

This is the same guy who put up a pay-for font on his site for free then posted the link to Digg without evening mentioning the font creator. Just said "I'm such a nice bloke I'm uploading a $150 font on my site so you design wannabes can haz 4 free!"

Oops, my post got cut off....I think a funny point he misses is how the whole AJAX/Web2.0 trend tries very hard to mimic one of the finer points of flash, which is seamless content updates....no need to re-render a whole new page.
And of course he focuses on the "flaws" that have straightforward "fixes" if you can even call them that.
Yes, you can select text in flash.
Yes, you can use the backbutton and bookmark specific pages.
Yes, you can make flash sites readable by Search engines."Third, and most time consuming. Whatever you do, no matter how hard you try, Flash will never have a content management system. "
LOL. Guess what? HTML won't ever either. That's why you have to use PHP or .Net to add on a backend.

Have you checked out his "forum"? It's all just a bunch of posts he's made himself.

I'm glad I wasn't the only person who thought it was unbelievably obnoxious to have a forum and store for your blog.

It's a month old but I ran into this on google while trying (and failing despite my best efforts) to find a Flash-exclusive site I saw a few months ago that actually bucked the norm by remembering to have interesting content.
The fact that a lot of the flash exclusivists here refuse to punctuate properly pretty much sums up the problem. If you can't even be bothered to use a shift key to make life easier for your audience, why should you be bothered to make similar considerations when it comes to learning more than one skillset to design a website?
There is no denying that Flash is great at what it was originally intended for: Frame intensive interactive animation and effects in a box.
But if you don't understand or haven't even heard of the advantages of maintaining a separation of presentation, content and functionality or the rather immense financial selling points these things translate to when pitching a client, I recommend you broaden your horizons a bit.

I don't like Flash because I can't code it and it makes my PowerBook come to a grinding halt. Looks nice though.

i still find it difficult to believe, that there are people who will only see the world as pure black and white; not as only varying shades of grey.
amazing.
