So I'm working on a project with a writer.
And I keep getting instruction like, "this needs to be left-justified."
Then he gets pissed if I ask him to explain what that means. "You call yourself a designer, and you don't know what that means?"

I would assume that means the text isn't left justified? or maybe he wants shit aligned on a left rule? what a cunt!
- Jaline0
Does he actually just mean "justified".
Otherwise you should tell him to draw a diagram for you.
Or just punch him in the face.

just put everything on the left side...

...then punch him in the face.

tell him "this needs to be written in 11pt tahoma" when giving requests.

Yeah, get the writer to draw a picture!
"I draw pictures with words!"

Tell him "You're the writer. I'm the designer. K thx."
(in a nice way)
- absolutely.kona
- Sort of like "I'm the rapper, and he's the DJ."

yeah, I'm a little confused how the writer get's to determine the final look. But i've certainly had a client or two who've made up technical terms off the top of their head and expected me to know what they're talking about...

writer's just wanna be designers anyway. just explain to him the difference between justified and aligned.

I do not think I have ever properly justified text in CSS.

hahahahaha. I wish I had a dime for every miserable fucking time I have heard left justified only to find out they meant left aligned. Is there a website that Acct Execs use to get design sounding names? Maybe we should all get together and collaborate on a reference site for AE's with terms like pixelate and left justified and other assorted terms. Lets start a list. We gotsta start somewhere! Then the site could be a translation site as well. Like "pompous AE term = snobby Design Term" and I think we can all communicate better with our teams at work.

i've never heard of a writer critiquing design, unless you're in an agency where you have a writer/CD over you. You're working w/ the wrong person, my friend. That's annoying.

just to sound like a professional (which I used to be)...it's your duty as a designer to educate those who pay you.
- gramme0
Tell them that every Word doc they send your way with new copy must be set in 10 point Garamond, and that if they use ITC Garamond you'll send them a severed horse head.

justify your punch on the left side of he's face! which will be to your right side of your body... very important dont forget that
- gramme0
drag your knuckles evenly to get a good rag on the right side of his face.

Friends,
there IS actually a left justified setting. It means the text being justified full width but where it cant - ie short sentence, it will rag to the left.
