I had a mockup review with a local client yesterday. The amount of cliche client requests was pretty funny. I got:
1) make the logo bigger
2) add a swoosh to the logo
3) fill in the white space with somethingOn top of all that they gave me hand written text to retype on their site.

So basically, you just had a normal tuesday?

Did they really ask for a swoosh?

My favorite request for a website:
"Can you make it 'fullscreen'?"
Haha.

I usually don't get that many at once. Being given printed text to retype is probably my biggest pet peeve.

I charge design rate to type that shit out

I don't really understand it but I think comments I've read before about many clients fear of white space is interesting. I think someone said white space may make them feel like they are not getting their moneys worth.
- or that you're not working hard enough...look at all that empty room where you did nothing!!!marychain
- that will really be apparent when you make it fullscreen********
- I just tell them white space gets designed every bit as much as filled space. Seems to work 9/10 times.gramme

are they adding a swoosh to their logo on their business cards?

Once I got this response that said that I "had too much empty space up top". I think it was personal.

I've been doing a lot of work for small clients that I get from referrals. It is interesting how many small businesses think that a logo is something they will just throw together themselves in PowerPoint or something. I also wonder where most small business get their letterhead designs from. Just the local printshops I guess.

a client told me we could redesign the logo so long as we used times new roman. when i asked why, they said because the owner of the company just purchased giant lighted letters for the side of the building and he used the current logo which was just italic times new roman. i told them i didnt think id be messing with the logo

ha... I had a client today say, "can you make the middle color less grapey"... ummm... it's a 600px transition from Dark Blue to gray, but, I'll see what I can do.

Ug. I'm working on a website & logo for a new client. The guy wanted me to copy what was on his company trucks, which were all hand painted. He also wanted the exact (and crappy looking) hammer that had been put on his trucks...so I mocked up these:
And he emails me back this, saying "My wife can make this up on our computer at home", so can we just go with this...":
Why do we bother.
- No, that's OK. My wife can just take out my appendix at home.decisionman
- And this is what he gave me to make a logo from:
http://www.theminibl…TheBlueOne - And his business cards used Tekton and his letterhead had Times New Roman..TheBlueOne
- ..and he's like "I want to match all of them. And the hammer."TheBlueOne

- you really don't need clients like that man...dump em.tank02
- Agreed. Sounds like a waste of time.dirtydesign
- yeah kick him to the kerb. they only tend to drag you down.jimzyk
- obvious the client think they know branding better then you. his wife is an expert.akrokdesign
- i feel the sudden urge to park that hammer in his left eye..********

I remember freelancing for a production company with a hard ass Inhouse supervisor on a really tight deadline. It was the final few days, everybody was putting in insane hours. Friday afternoon arrived and he gave us a PEP TALK for the weekend. He said " Up the quality and Up the speed." Then he picked up his paycheck and went to the cottage for the weekend.
